Development of ‘High Performance Nano-conductive Coating Materials’ for Colorray and Automotive Foundation Painting

Chinese company Colorray (900310) listed on KOSDAQ has developed high-performance nano-conductive coating materials for vehicles. This material is a coating paint for basic automotive painting and is a research and development result conducted by Colorray Technology Development Co., Ltd., a Chinese subsidiary.

Automotive foundation paint, called primer, is the first coating paint to be applied to the surface of the body to protect the plastic surface from corrosion or physical impact when painting the body and to the adhesion of paint paint.

Colorray announced that it has been making efforts for three years to develop raw materials for automotive conductive primers using mica. After three years of research and development, the National Paint Quality Supervision and Audit Center received very high scores in surface resistance, impact resistance, flexibility, and adhesion, and applied for five invention patents for solving key technology problems such as dispersibility of conductive particles.

“It can be applied not only to the automobile conductive paint market but also to all industries where functional painting and painting are used,” said Ju Joong-biao, CEO of Colorray. “The success of this storage-grade focus project is very significant.”

As of 2021, the Chinese automobile industry is growing rapidly every year, surpassing about 26.5 million units in production and 200 million units in registered units. As China’s automobile market continues to grow, it is expected that the scope and demand of automotive primer conductive coating materials will increase in the future. As of 2021, China consumed 280,000 tons of conductive paint and its market size is estimated to be about 16.8 billion yuan (about 3 trillion won).
